Easy Sheet Tabs In Excel With VBA (Beginner Tutorial)
If you’ve ever wished Excel had easier navigation, this training is for you. In this step-by-step video, I walk you through building your own clickable sheet tabs directly inside Excel using only VBA.
We start completely from scratch, drawing simple shapes that act as buttons. Then, with just a few lines of code, we connect those shapes to VBA macros that hide and unhide different sections of the worksheet. This way, you can switch between “tabs” just like you would in a professional dashboard.
You’ll learn how to:
- Use Application.Caller to detect which shape was clicked.
- Hide and unhide rows or columns depending on the tab selected.
- Format shapes with custom colors and fonts to create an active/inactive effect.
- Build both vertical tabs (switching between row sections) and horizontal tabs (switching between column sections).
The end result is a clean, interactive Excel interface that makes navigating large worksheets much easier. And the best part? You don’t need any add-ins — everything is built with native Excel and VBA.
This is a perfect project for anyone just starting with VBA, and it’s a great way to add real functionality to your workbooks right away.
